2. March, 2014 Student of the Month: Sarah W. :] !

(Not only because she occasionally brings us cookies- but also because she’s got an awesome attitude)

Where are you from? How long have you been in LA?

I grew up in the Bay Area, and moved to LA in 2005 to go to UCLA.

How long have you been training Muay Thai?

I started at Robot almost 2 years ago, but I spent the first 6 months doing boot camp before I got hooked on Muay Thai.

What got you started?

Nicky! She introduced me to the gym and I’m ever so grateful!

What’s your favorite aspect of Muay Thai?

I never stop learning. It’s a physical and a mental challenge, and there is no room for outside b.s. while training, so I get to leave all my other stresses / worries at the door and focus on pushing my mental and physical limits.

What keeps you motivated?

The coaches and other students! Everyone is so supportive, cheering you on when your out of gas and pushing you to do more than you thought you were capable of.

Any training tips you’d like to share?

Haha. You will not get it right the first time! Keep frustration in check and keep working. Every day. I’m still working on this, but it’s getting better 🙂

What is something you are proud of since you started training?

I discovered that I am far stronger than I ever thought. And not just physically.

If you could dive into a pool of any food item what would it be?

If you could have any mini-animal of any kind, what would it be and why?

Hmmm, the mini part has me worried, wouldn’t want to lose it in the couch cushions, but I think it would be an elephant. To me they represent strength, wisdom and family — and they’re just so damn cool!

How do you have such fabulous red hair? Any secret hair tips you can fill us in on?

Haahaahaa my hair secret is that I am a natural blond! Gasp! My hair tip would be to make friends with someone who is amazing at doing hair.

AND a little about yourself, anything you’d like to share with the gym, or question you’d like to answer that I didn’t ask ? Any life advice you’d like to give?

Hmmm a little about myself? … I’m the youngest of three, so I have my older brother to thank for my love of sports and my willingness to take a punch! Outside the gym I’m a theater geek and a total bookworm. I love to bake, so any excuse to do so is welcome!

Any advice? Lets see …

Self doubt is a killer. I’m not saying that false confidence is good – but if you are going to do something, try as hard as you can to believe as hard as you can, that you will succeed. Set backs are not failures, as long as you keep trying. It’s a lesson I am continually learning and working on, in training and in life.
